Do you have the recovery disk?
Is the XP distribution stored on your hard drive?
If you do not have either then you will not have an operating system after you reformat.

OOOO..that's a MAJOR step. If you reformat, you lose everything on the hard drive, so try alternatives first. Why do you want to reformat it..is something not working right?
If you don't have the capability of re-installing XP, and you clean off the disk, you will have to run out and but a copy (Bill Gates will thank you!)

Usually a malfunctioning computer can be brought back, so tell me what's happening, and perhaps I can save you some trouble. Yes, I CAN tell you how to re-format the disk, but don't do it except as a last resort, if you don't have that disk!

if you dont have the cd then get one, phone a friend. put the cd in the drive, your computer should recognize it as a bootable cd and probably say press any key to boot, once you are in there delete the partitions and make some new ones. install windows, if this doesnt make any sense to you and you have never done it before, call for some backup, find a nerd who can help you do it. you need some onsite help.
