They thrashed every other country to win the World Cup - is there any point in other nations even bothering to compete?

Australia is not so good at playing international matches because before the world cup they were in a streak of 5 losses but in the world cup they won all the matches. I think something enters every body of the players during the world cup.

So many great Answers already given by users here like 'John_M', 'CLICKHEREx', 'securitron_ch', 'wizebloke' and a few more that we have come to realise as to why is Australia so consistently dominant in international cricket.

In addition to having characters like Ricky Ponting to lead the team and having Cricket Academy with strongest domestic competitions among the Cricket playing nations, I would like to add the following:

I said earlier in response to another question, Australian cricketers are comparable to Swiss & German Machines. Fine and Accurate, works all the time with almost 100% efficiency. Value for money. Taxpayers pay for them.

Btw, I felt a bit sad reading some of the responses from apparently Sri Lankan and Indian fans here that Aussies used money, drugs and dirty-tricks etc to win the ICC CWC 2007. In my view one can not fake 'win' most of the time. Therefore, why not accept the outcome with sportsmanship?

I think match fixing plays a huge part. Most Idiots from the Indian subcontinent will willingly take cash and lose for their country. Recently it came out into the open that Shane Warne used to approach opponents before a game and offer them money before a game to play below par. Australia are a good team but their domination over many years has a suspicious ring to it. Most people dont look at it this way. I never thought that Aussie cricketers were superior to the rest of the world. Also it is a fact that Australia paid Figi and Samoa etc to play badly in the rugby world cup. Not just cricket but any rich nation has the power to pay off poorer countries when it comes to sport. This happened to Brazil when they purposefully lost to France because it gave them huge financial benefit and Brazilian footballers were threatened if they didnt comply. I always felt that USAs success in the olympics was due to taking drugs especially thier sprinters. Unfortunately many people think i am crazy BUT I AM NOT!!! I had a huge final laugh when sprinter Justin Gatlin got a life ban because i proved to everyone that i was not paranoid. People should wake up and realise how corrupt the world really is.

Team spirit and professionalism are some aspects that need to be emulated by other cricketing nations. Also, especially in the summer months, every child who can hold a bat with both hands is out there on a makeshift wicket - so it has the grassroots factor and the clubs and schools feed the best of these into their competitions. There isn't any real competition from other sports during summer except for surfing so it enjoys a monopoly that other countries can only dream of.

cuz Ass tralian some cricketers do unfair things when play
cheating is not a new thing to them
I think when "Gill" drank some fluids which
brought by Autralian reserved player,
might have given him this power hitting ability

Gichrist did illegal thing
me think when "Gilcriss drank some fluids which
brought by Autralian reserved player,
might have given him this big hitting power
Law 3 (6) (c) (i) specifically prohibits a player from using equipment other than that permitted. And nowhere in cricket’s 42 laws is there a mention of a squash ball as a permitted item.

sri lanka could have won under better circustances,

if it was a 50 over match
if the weather was better.

this was the only match in the world cup it wasnt 50 overs. they should have postponed it for the next day or a day the weather was good.

Ultimately....rain & light chaos prevented
Sri Lanka from winning the World cup 2007
still some fans demand srilakns
shut their mouth about this UNJUST....
At least these fans ~criss and ~sord rox and lara king~
doing something against this ~disgusting unjust
thanx again guys
we dont worship Kangaroos
we worship .. only god

Australia is consistently strong because we have one of the strongest domestic competitions and good spending throughout the whole system (grassroots, Commonwealth Bank cricket academy, AIS etc).

There are lots of players in the domestic compeltition that played none or only a few tests for Australia like Phil Jacques, Martin Love, Brad Hodge (getting a run now) to name a few who would have all gotten a run for pretty much any other team in the world. When these guys play county cricket they DOMINATE.

Also, guys that have played a fair bit of test cricket (Lehmann, Langer, Elliott, Blewett, Bichel, Kasprowitz, Gillespe) come back to the Domestic game to give new guys coming through experience against great players.

That is why when players from Australia step up to the next level they are already tough-as-nails and perform almost straight away. Just look at players like Mike Hussey who had already scored well over 15,000 first class runs before he even got a game for Australia. In most countries he would be placed in a team before he was ready and while he might go okay (like Monty Panesar) a lot of guys get their confidence shattered from being put at the highest level too early.

For our small population, we are easily the best sporting country in the world, placing highly in the last 2 Olympic Games, and at one stage beating the USA in 5 out of 6 Davis cup ties in tennis, and were recently the top country in the world in Rugby Union, Cricket, and Rugby League, and are traditionally highly competitive in swimming and hockey. We place a very high value on sporting achievement, sometimes to the detriment of academics, which are not as highly respected here as in Europe, or the USA. The origin of this is thought by some to hark back to the fact that the early white population was largely of convict stock, many of whom were Irish and/or had a poor education, yet they could compete against, and often beat their English jailers on the sporting fields, and came to value this highly. It has continued to this day, in the battles for the Ashes; against the Old Enemy on the cricket oval: England. We will soon be in a rebuilding phase, as many of the retiring champions of recent years are replaced with fresh talent, and I look forward with interest to see whether any other countries have realised the golden window of opportunity which will be opening up soon, and which they may be able to take advantage of, at least for a short time.

Because we have a fair number of the world's best Cricket players. But we were beaten in the tri-nations series recently... So we don't win every time we go out onto the pitch...

Because Australia have highly talented players and they perform to their potential consistently, Australia maintain their spot at the top in the game of cricket, whereas in the case of other countries, though they have also talented players, they fail to perform consistently and shine only once in a while.

They are playing unbelievable cricket,In other words circket at its best when the Aussies play.
IN years to come we are only going to witness the other teams playing for the second position.
The true champions are their to stay for long but lets see who will stand up to challenge the rulers of cricket.
