Most battery powered detectors make some sort of noise when the battery is low. Usually a short chirp. One the dectectors that I have you turn the unit clockwise and that takes it off of the mount. The battery is a 9 volt and easy to change. Use alkaline batteries.

It is time to change the batteries. They do that when the batteries are getting low.Just twist the top of the alarm and it should open.Install the new batteries and push the test button it will sound like 3 beeps and that should be all.Test your alarm at least once a week by pressing the test button.

The cover usially pops right off and there is a 9 volt inside or... if it is hard wired in.. you might need a new one. They do go bad from time to time and DUST will set them off and damage them to the point they need to be replaced. Heres what i would do..

1) Make SURE there is not any fires or smoke anywhere
2) Check the battery Replace at once.
3) Replace if needed the whole unit (Right away!!!)

Very dangerous to NOT have a fire alarm.

you know I WISH i knew the answer to this, because mine are doing the same thing. BUT mine are hardwired into my alarm, and im thinking that maybe because i just moved in and the alarm isnt connected yet, that might have something to do with it?? but yeah to be safe i AM gonna change out all the batteries. i wonder if since they are all wired together, if one battery is bad, if they all chirp like they are doing now?

if the smoke alarm is slowly beeping, you need to change the batteries. to change them, just slowly and easily pry off the face plate. you will see a 9v battery-the square kind-just unplug it and replace it. the best way to remember when to change them is when the clocks change.
