Oh definitely, some--if not many--people do. Cats also have prescience. My cat alerts me BEFORE the phone rings, (no, this isn't a coincidence, she does it every time). She "picks up" on strangers the moment they walk in the door, & with some, she will simply vanish. I'll discover that person is someone I can't relate to, either. (No, I am not "influenced" by her.) To others, (even strangers), she'll speak to them & touch noses. I wish I had the ability to perceive people so well at first meeting! I suspect Duncan w has simply not given time, observation, or concern--to say that cats are interested only in instant gratification. This couldn't be more untrue. Cats are nurturing. When I'm stressed, & although I keep it so well to myself, my cat knows. She will come to me, talk to me (in the interrogative--who here understands cat language?) & pat me with her little paw. She has nothing to gain. She isn't hungry, she doesn't want attention, she only wants to comfort me. Oh, let me count the ways of depth & wisdom of cats! Izen G said it so well, that humans "...underestimate all other forms depth & wisdom." I suspect this has much to do with ego, in which feeling "superior" is so important to some people, also the lack of love & companionship by which we observe these incredible capacities, gifts, if you will. I think it's also the attitude of absolute indifference, the cat/dog eats, "poops" & that's all there is to it. I wish people like that didn't have "animals." Can't help but wonder what "depth" these people have in their human relationships?

Yes, cats are very wise and playful.
Sometimes I believe that my cat is my owner.
People said that the dogs are the humans best friend but I'm not sure about that.
I love cats.

my long history with cats has lead me to believe that they are neither deep or wise. A cat is interested in instant gratification, if what they do happens to make us feel better that is merely coincidental. My cats like me but I feed them and brush them and keep them healthy.

I don't know that cats are particularly deep or wise by human definitions, but it sure seems like they think so :)

No - cats would never let that happen. They're too smart for that. Pax - C.
