I am looking for a video/graphics card that can handle hardcore gaming, and was wondering what is the BEST or ONE OF THE BEST cards I can get for under $200, my computer is PCI express X16.

Actually if you can get a Radeon X1950XT for *under* $200, then that's definitely the pick. But they tend to run exactly $200 and up (well 199.99) plus taxes etc- at which point you might consider the brand new GeForce 8600 series.

Dropping down a notch you can pick between the Radeon X1950 Pro and GeForce 7900GS, but there's a noticeable performance drop to that level, so I'd recommend pushing your budget a few bucks if needed... It'll be well worth the extra $20-$40.

Below, is an article from a couple of months ago that lists the best gaming cards in each price range- prices have dropped a little since then, but it's still a good breakdown.

If you want to compare the performance of any two cards head-to-head, check out http://www.gpureview.com

I'd say it's probably the ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3. Its perfect for sub $200. If you can stretch a bit more, I'd go for the ATI Radeon HD 3870 or the nVidia GeForce 8800GT. The ATI 2900 and 1950 are good bets also. The 8600 isn't a great card, it's cheap and the 3850 is almost double the performance of the 8600GT version.

Indeed the 1950 and 7900 are good choices.
However, DirectX10 cards for under $200 were just released a week ago (from Nvidia, 8600GT and 8600GTS)
ATI is expected to launch theirs in May.
I would just hold off for now, hopefully to get a DX10 card for under 200 or to get one of the already listed cards for even cheaper. Good Luck!

X1950XT by far.

It's almost as fast as the X1950XTX and beats the 7900GTX. The next step up is the 8800GTS 320MB for ~$270.

I use GeForce2 MX/MX 400 by NVIDIA and I'm happy with it. I'm almost sure it's under $200

Hope this helps =)

Here it is the best you can get for those money. You could get another card with 512 ram, but you will loose at the processor, so I suggest you this one, is very ballanced.
