What defines "straight" or "bi sexual"? I think perhaps these women would not call themselves bisexual because they feel the definition of being bisexual means that they are attracted to both sexes all the time and have no preference. I have had sexual relations with a woman in the past, which I enjoyed, but I don't go into a bar & check out both the girls & guys. Its about labels I guess, maybe if they were given the option to tick "have enjoyed some bi experiences but mainly prefer guys" instead of "straight" or "bi sexual" there would be a better result.

Because it is more socially acceptable for women who are straight to be with each other than men who are straight to be with other men; women who have engaged in same sex relationships feel safe admitting that because they expect that they can still represent as straight and not be questioned. Just think, there are tons of X rated movies that feature two women together, and I've had more than one man tell me it's a turn on. Are the women in these movies true lesbians? Remember lesbianism and homosexuality can not be defined simply by sexual relationships, although that's the first thing that comes to peoples' minds when they hear those terms. Sexuality is no more a part of their respective relationships than it is a heterosexual's.

Straight people can still experiment with the same sex... having had experiences with the same sex doesn't make a straight person gay any more than having sexual relations with the opposite sex makes a gay person straight.

I'm sure some of those women are just in the closet, but I wouldn't be surprised if a majority were simply curious.

Denial.

And the fact that the government owns most of the companies doing the polling.

Just kidding of course...it's probably because women are generally more comfortable with their sexuality, and aren't as pressured by society as men to fit into a gay or straight role.

Not to mention, sexual tendencies are wider spread than one thinks...I prefer to use the Kinsey, gives a better explanation to the question, "So are you gay, or straight?"

having sex and making love are too completely different things. Sometimes there are no feelings attached. Also, there are a lot of girls (and guys) who "experiment" with the same sex to see who they really are. They may be confused about their sexuality, especially with girls becuase its exeptable for females to tell eachother they look cute, so a girl may think another female is cute and get confused. They have sex with them to see if they are gay and sometimes they're not.

a lesbian isn't realy thought of as a woman who has had sexual relations with another, it's a woman who prefers it. It's a woman who would rather have sexual relations with a girl, not one who has maybe just experimented.

Depends entirely how the question was phrased in the poll. Many woman have probably experimented once or twice, and that was it.

I think it is one of three things: they are still trying to figure out their basic orientation & are sticking with the "normal" hetero label for now, in denial of being gay or bi & suppressing for a variety of reasons, or they were curious, experimented & are truly straight.

I also think it has become "cool" for straight women to "act" bi or lez when going out to the bars...messing around with other women. I guess to each their own....

Women seem to be alot looser in their sexuality than men. So if the right moment occurs between two women, they might get intimate.

In today's society (at least here in America) it is easier to be heterosexual than homosexual or even bisexual. It could also be that they were not enjoy being with another women, or maybe they didn't want to mess up their heterosexual lifestyle.
