I just recently got a new/used car, new to me. I work full time and treated myself to a few year old BMW. My mom asked what other cars I was considering and I told her. My mom has always been lazy and manipulative and uses anything to manipulate me. Well onto the good part, mom emailed me and asked me to look up information on all of the cars on the list for her, BUT one year newer than I got. She has no job by choice but has a husband who works who will probably buy it for her. BUT she wants me to do reseach for her? I take pride in the fact that I work and can buy myself nice things, she takes pride in the fact that she can get nice things without working. Must she rub it in my face? To me thats just mean and non mother like. What do you think?

It all depends on your point of view and your value system.

For some, being cared for and be provided with, is an ultimate in happiness. For some, being self-sufficient and being able to support him/her self is ultimate in happiness.

For me, I'd prefer a junker that I bought for myself, rather than a new car that someone bought for me. I do not like being dependent on anyone for my own happiness.

Your mother IS probably trying to show you that she can do better than you can, in her own sense. BUT, it doesn't matter. It seems to me, YOU have the better value system in your head; of course, according to ME.

No, I don't think what your mother is doing is mean, or rubbing in your face. I just think it is silly and to be honest, showing her stupidity. (sorry) Go with your own value system. You'd go very far with it.

Your mother probably liked the idea of getting a new car and being that you recently purchased one she thinks you have a bit of research trapped in your head. I don't know the personality of your mother but if she wants to rub it in your face I'm sure she would get the car first and then show it off to you. If she's looking for a car one year newer than yours I really don't understand that part.

She's mainly looking for advice, I'm sure. Does she have a car now?

I think you're better off letting mom do the footwork from now on. Sounds like she competes with you.

No, maybe your Mom thinks that you might know what you are doing, and just wants your help. Or maybe she wants to spend some sort of time with you and doesn't know how to say it.
