Honestly with some types you can't tell at all and with others it's very simple to tell. How you tell depends greatly on the type of fish you are referring to so if you can list the one's you mean we could help you.

That honestly depends on the type of fish. Some have variances in fin sizes, styles, colors, etc.
Also, again...depending on the type of fish, you may not know if they're pregnant until they either lay eggs or give live birth. You need to be a tad more detailed as far as what kinds of fish you're asking about.

If a fish is pregnant it has a bloated belly.

usually the males have triangular shapeed anal fins and the females have more slender ones. the fish will be really fat when prego
