At first Mary did not know Adam was blind. She was being stubborn and she was feeling sorry for herself. Adam taught Mary to see with her hands and and not her eyes. Just because she was blind that didn't mean she could learn to start doing things for herself again. So that is where Adam came in and started to teach Mary to sign and to read Braille. Just because she was blind that was no reason for her to feel sorry for herself. That was when Adam started to really teach Mary how to start to do things for herself and live a full rich life even though she was blind. So when her parent's where told that Mary was ready to go home. That is when Mary and Adam started falling in love. She told him that she doesn't even know what he looks like. And Adam let Mary feel his face. He also wanted to know what Mary looks like. That is when Mary first realize that Adam was blind like her. So that is when Mary let Adam feel her face as well.

When she went blind, her family sent her to the blind school. Adam was her teacher there. Mary didn't know he was also blind until one day when she told him she didn't know what he looked like, so he let her feel his face. Then he told her he didn't know what she looked like either, that's when Mary found out he was blind too, then she let him feel her face. They were falling in love with each other by then & that made them even more in love with each other. Mary was really impressed that Adam could do all the things everyone else could do, even though he was blind. Thats when she stopped thinking she couldn't do normal things anymore.

I have read those books a lot and I don't remember ever hearing of Adam in them. I think Adam was a character that the shows writers made up to make Mary a bigger part of the show and incorporate the blind school in the show. I believe there was no Adam outside of the show.

Do not believe what you see on TV.
In reality, Mary met her husband at a school for the blind.
These books are excellent. I thing that Laura Ingles Wilder is the best American author.
These books are semi-autobiographical. There is no way to know for sure, as some details were changed to make the stories better.

When Mary first met Adam at the blind school, he told her he was blind right at the beginning. He taught her how to deal with it and learn how to cope and help herself with everything, ie, eating, dressing, walking, etc.
