some people say it looks like an egg i don't really think it does. maybe i am looking at it wrong.......

First of all if the eggs are not fertile they won't hatch. Then you need a hen to sit on them and if it's not a sitting hen, that is wanting to sit then it won't stay with the eggs. Or an incubator to do the warming.

Same reason there is no dog in hotdog....they needed a name and eggplant was as good as" wamobo" or something like that, besides it would be easier to remember:)

Because it is round and oval shaped like an egg. Plus it grows out of the ground like a plant. Plus it isn't healthy to eat it raw.
