I record a lot of TV shows (around 100 one hour shows into 25 DVD-RW's every month) I first bouhgt an Insignia DVD/VCR combo, but after only 4 months of usage, it no longer works properly. I have been told that most DVD recorders can only record a couple of hundred times before the hardware can no longer record properly. is this true? if so, is there a high end or "heavy use" dvd recorder out there? any links to where i can buy it or find more information on this specific question?

I appreciate the feedback so far; however, to be a little more clear, I am looking for a DVD recorder unit which connects to my TV. (Not a DVD recorder for computer or laptop)

Buy a PC with Windows Media OS (or now Vista Premium) and a TV Tuner card. (Will not work if you use satellite or premium cable though) although Vista PCs with Cable card support should be available shortly. Then, the capacity of recording will only be restricted by the size of your hard drive.
Make sure you buy fast hard drives.

The motor in those recorder/participant are not somewhat meant to run consistent. Get a top type gadget with prolonged warrany. i might in basic terms get yet another one if it starts off to crap out. There are marketplace heavy accountability ones yet those will value you $1000+. i does no longer propose SONY to anybody. Pioneer products are properly made, I nonetheless have my Pioneer LD participant it somewhat is approximately 15 years previous, nonetheless kicking like the day i bought it. I additionally bought between the early Pioneer modern-day test DVD participant that performs properly after 8 years. somewhat the Pioneer dvd participant performs the blistered disc while different 6 participant I had all crapped out.

Hi Sergio,

I burn a lot of DVD's and get good life out of Aopen drives. I am able to burn faster without any failures and I have burned hundreds for our shop without Failure.

The only drives I had that failed early were Sony's.

There really isn't much stress on a DVD recorder. They should last a long time.
