Check the fuse, if that looks to be okay then it could be the master switch at the drivers door, see if the window switch at the passenger side operates the window properly, as this could definitively indicate the master switch as the suspect at fault. Otherwise there could be a open or short in the window circuit(s). If no problem is found in the circuit then it is probaly the window motor or window regulator.

Underneath the driver's side dash is a series of relays which look like small boxes, about 1 inch square with 4 to 5 prongs that plug into a sockets. There is one called a "comfort relay" and is sky blue in color that specifically operates the front windows. Testing this relay is somewhat involved but it is easily unplugged and taken to the dealership for testing. If they won't test it, they are about $10 US. Good luck.

its most likely the fuse that goes to your power window motor.
but it is slightly possible that both of your window motors decided to go bunk on you at the same time. or your car could just have some sick very-hard-to-cure electrical problem. i used to have a 5 series bmw, and the electrical shortage ruined the whole car. i basically had to "throw it away".
good luck.

regulators are known to give problems on the e36,but it is more likley to be a fuse problem if both broke at the same time.

you got a fuse out and you got to look at all the fuses to find the one to replace --- easier to go to the dealer and ask the "parts dude" for the replacement fuse and the true location of that fuse for the front winders

Could it be that they are on a different fuse and that one of them has blown, have you checked all the fuses?
