what do i do if there is a stranger in my house and i'm hiding in the closet and cant get to the phone. all i have is a pair of dress shoes and belt. quick responses would be appreciated.

i tried to see if he left but he just shot at me and now i'm in another closet but now he also knows i'm here. now all i have is an umbrella and metal hangers. what now?

Well, assuming you have an Internet connection and a computer, you should probably e-mail everyone you know telling them to call the police and tell them to go to your address ASAP.
Or... if the stranger doesn't know you're in the closet, you could peek out and try and make your way to a window or a phone, with a makeshift weapon in hand. When it comes to self-defense, be ruthless (don't care about his/her health, no matter how much that natural instinct is engrained in our minds) -- poke his/her eyes, etc.

I think Ellen Degenerous' story is the best. She kept it a secret for so long, and was so depressed, that when she came out, it was just like,"so?" Nowadays it's so common. Tell your friend that if anyone disapproves, they're not worth being his friend. His parents might be shocked, (or they might even know!) but they love him, and they'll either accept it right away, or else they will come around. Staying in the closet is the wrong thing to do nowadays. Tell him to come out, and what a load it'll be off his shoulders.
