I recently (yesterday) found out that I was pregnant. Since this totally unplanned, I've been a smoker the whole time. I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow, but was wondering if in the meantime i should quit cold-turkey, or just cut back. I'm afraid since I'm a pretty heavy smoker any drastic change of behavior could hurt my baby. Anyone have any advice?

Quiting cold turkey might not be best for your nerves, but it is the best thing you can do for that baby right now. Good luck.

Dont quit cold turkey its bad for you and the baby.this is doctor stated so i didnt make it up.if you are a smoker when you become pregnant you should cut back until you can quit before the second trimester.this means quit in three months or sooner if you can.but stopping completely in one day is not good for you or the baby the baby is used to the nicotene and will stress for not getting any just like you will.smoking isnt good for the baby and i can see you know that but it is dangerous if you have been smoking thus far to stop immediatley.wean yourself off the cigarette over the next three months or sooner.so as not to stress yourself or the baby for lack of nictotene a substance you both are used to getting in your system Good Luck.

I smoked a pack and half a day when I found out I was pregnant. I quit cold turkey. I don't know if that was the best way to do it but I have a very healthy 10 month old little girl.
Best of luck

If u can quit completely, that would be best. Just do it cold turkey, thats what i did. I didnt have any issues with it at all. I actually felt alot better once I quit.
If u cant quit, then at least slack down and limit yourself to a few a day.
Its hard for some and easy for others. I was one of the lucky ones, but I said if I ever got pregnant that I would. So, I did.
Good luck to u and congrats hun.

Just cut down slowly until you can manage quiting completely b/c your child is already used to the nicotine and if you just quit like that that will be bad for your baby so take it easy and cut down! i was the same way and i just cut back and ended up only having a smoke a day up till i was 6 mos so u should be fine!!!!!! i had a very healthy and huge 9 lbs baby boy 9 mos ago!! so good luck and don't stress yourself out that way if you need a drag here and there do it and just focus on cutting back instead of the heavy stress of having to just quit like that!!

I quit cold turkey and did ok, you should try to quit but if you are going to be stressed out cut down as much as you can. Its the best thing that you can do for your baby.

the only thing that will hurt your baby is still smoking cigarettes...they are not only terrible for your health but the chemicals are definately dangerous for a developing fetus. Quit cold turkey for your baby's sake, you will in no way hurt your baby, but only help him/her...anyone that tells you otherwise is not very wise.
