Yes, if you're spending a lot use PayPal. Make sure that the have the paypal seal on the page of the item you are bidding on. It's under all of the members info and it tells you how much they will pay you if the item never gets sent.

I also only buy from people with a high feedback if it is an expensive item. The higher the feedback the safer the buyer. If they have a feedback of 0 or only a few they could be a scammer.

I've def. learned my lesson.

Listen, and listen carefully! NEVER send a personal check, money order or cash to anyone on eBay!!! Get a Paypal account. If they don't accept Paypal, forget about 'em! Also make sure you check the seller's rating, his/her track record (percentage score), personal feedback, and check how long they've been selling on eBay. There are so many scammers on eBay, the FBI even has trouble keeping up with them! Just be safe and not sorry.

If the deal is too good to be true, then it isn't a good deal.

a tip from me. I only bid from sellers who have sold over 200 items and have a seller rating of 99% or more.

EBay is safe, just make sure you DO NOT RESPOND TO e-mails coming from EBay. There are a TON of Phishing e-mails and sites.

Read EBays safety/security page.

You would be very wise to open a PayPal account and pay all internet purchases through them. In effect, you pay PayPal and PayPal pays the seller. In that way, the seller never sees your account information. PayPal puts a limited insurance on your purchases too but you should check the fine lines on that. I have taken out a separate visa account with a low limit on it and I use it strictly for internet purchases. I feel that at least protects my main household accounts. Good luck.

Ebay is basically an aonymous flea market.

At a real world flea market there will be some people trying to rip you off. But there doing it face to face, more risk to them of being caught.

On ebay there is virtually no risk of being caught for the ones that know how to stay mostly anonymous.

I personally believe Craigs List is safer since you can deal with local people.

Before you bid on an item, it is a good habit to check the rating of the seller. See if they have any bad comments against them or if everyone they sold to was satisfied.
