It's human nature to be dissatisfied with what you've got. The parents of the 50's were just as upset with their kids then as they are now. Times haven't really changed much, in this respect. Back then, parents were always hounding their kids about the way they dressed, their music and their grades...no change there. I do agree that most kids back then respected the adults in their lives, and would not think of talking back to them like they do now. And you didn't hear cussing as a way of normal conversation then either. It just shows a lack of respect, when someone uses cuss words. Yeah, I'm a moldy oldie, what can I say. I was raised by a mom who used a bar of soap for a filthy mouth. We not only respected mom, we feared her. That's pretty much missing from today's families. Would it be better for the youth of today? Yeah, it would. It would be better if EVERYONE had more discipline in their lives. Maybe then the kids would have good role models to follow. <*)))><

It is a myth the youth in the 50's were no better or worse that today's youth. We had mods and rockers, teddy boys and some boys used to go round with cycle chains and be ready to use them. There is historic evidence of similar remarks being made during the days of the Roman empire.

Yes it would.
The problems today are no different as one answerer says but kids fought with fists not knives, Teen pregnancies meant 16 or 17 year olds not 14 or younger and it was RARE not common! Giving cheek to adults wasn't tolerated and really bad language from a child under the age of ten unheard of.
In the 50's we not only had discipline we had freedoms today's children could only dream about, the terms 'peer pressure' 'designer labels' and 'children's fashion' didn't exist!
It wasn't all rosy but it was a far nicer time to grow up in!

Yes. A big part of the problem is that many parents today do not teach their kids that there is right or wrong. They just say that there's only "opinion." Supposedly, even the most off the wall or wild behavior is as valid as civilized behavior. Ppl also are taught that they have "rights" even if they commit crimes. Yet few ppl talk about responsibility and obligations.

no because we dont live in the same society of the 50s, money is harder to live from, food is more expensive per amount you earn, you cannot just say good morning to anyone without being locked up, sent away or called a wierdo, and I dont care what anyone says, you cannot under any circumstances leave your front door open while you "pop out for a minute"
Children are a product of not just our parenting, but as a result of their environment and society, they grow a hard edge to protect themselves, you see the injustice and harsh world thats out there? well the kids sure do!

In some ways yes. Things have gone to a new low in society.
2Timothy 3:16 says that critical times hard to deal with would be here in the last days. Men would be lovers of themselves.
Arrogant, liars, disloyal, having no natural affection. Lovers of money, not open to any aggreement. Always wanting to be boss.

Who says the youth of the 50s had discipline? My father and mother grew up then, and when I've heard stories, it doesn't sound like there was a lot of discipline. Just more sneakng around and parents who didn't suspect much...

Any kind of discipline would be nice, instead of the selfish disregard for everyone else that seems to prevail.
