If the catcher dropped the 3rd strike in one at bat and the runner reached first the inning would continue but the pitcher would still be credited with a K.

Rack up three strikeouts in every inning but one while winning at home in good weather. In that remaining inning, strike out the first two batters, then have the catcher drop the third strike to the third batter, and let the batter reach first base. Proceed to strike out the next batter, thus producing a 4-strikeout inning as detailed mere days ago. Voila! >27 Ks.

If the catcher doesn't catch the 3rd strike cleanly (because it's a passed ball or wild pitch), then the batter is allowed to try to make it to first base. If he does, then the at-bat goes down in the pitcher's stats as a strikeout but isn't counted as an out, and it's possible to get more strikeouts than outs.

Answered already, (catcher drops a third strike and batter takes first base). Pitcher gets credited with a K but inning continues.

A pitcher has struck out 4 men in one inning several times in the history of baseball (because of this)...
