You can use this all in one program from this site, it has it's own music/video vaults that carries shareware and freeware.
http://www.burn4free.com Besides anything you download on your Computer that isn't encrypted can be converted to a Ipod download. Go to this freeware/shareware site and find the download program http://www.majorgeeks.com

I had this problem also, took me forever to figure it out. When you download from limewire, have your itunes open and on library. Then click and drag the song you downloaded from limewire onto the itunes tab at the bottom of the screen, when the itunes page pops up release the song into the library. To get all your songs from your media player, right click a song and select open file location, all your songs will be there and you can drag them to itunes.

Any file that is a mp3 type file will go to your ipod, so if you download make sure you download an mp3 file. I personally use media monkey because my computer will not run itunes, so that's a good alternative if your computer will not run it. Itunes is free though, and it should be bug free so it's your best bet.
