I think it started with the Celts. Then came the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Franks, the Norse and finally, the Normans. Since then, we have received many more but in smaller numbers, such as Huguenots, Jews and Walloons, to name a few. In the 20th century, there were Asian, African and East European waves. I think that this has added to our culture no-end and as a result, has made the UK one of the most diverse countries in Europe.

The celts were supposed to come from around the Caspian sea, near Turkey. The Welsh however, might be an older race than the Celts since the welsh language is not the same as Irish or Scottish. However, back to your question I think most of us are Eurasian according to Manchester meuseum. There's no such thing as a true blue blooded Brit.

Yes - great that you brought this up. I understand that Channel 4 did a DNA survey and showed that many indigenous Brits had roots outside of the UK.

Interesting.

Its also worth noting that the UK has a generation crisis - not enough young people to support an aging population - governments know this and this is why they allow immigration.

I completely agree with you. We have pretty much always been a country of immigrants and invaders. That is what has led to us being the most tolerant, understanding people in the world - at our best!!
However, people are forgetting to acknowledge our history and think that mass immigration is a new phenomenon and has to be a bad thing.

there was a skeleton of a 10,000 year old man found in cheddar gorge and relatives of his sharing the same DNA were still living now in the same area.

So England has been populated quite steadily in places for a very long time.

You are correct and yet there are so many "Brits" who choose to ignore this.We have been diverse for so long but too many people think diverse Britain is more recent. This just serves to show how uneducated people are.

don't forget the Picts, who were there before the Celts.

and the Romans - and they brought people from all over the Empire, not just Italy.

It's certainly made us diverse, but I doubt that we are a nation any more.

the 'cradle of humanity' is supposedly in africa, where we fell out of our tree.,so in theory, every nation is made up of immigrants.get over it ! our ancestors were go-getters,tough,inquisitive,"whats over that next mountain?" these qualitys are what have been passed down to us,and made britain 'GREAT'.
