1995 Chevy Cavalier.
Hello...I'm trying to repair a car that hasn't been running in about a year, I've replaced so far the cylinoid, starter, and timing chain. I am now able to start the car ONLY by crossing over the starter. Car will not start by turning the key. I'm completely lost on this one, Anyone out there have any ideas what could be the problem??? I certainly would appreciate the help...

The car does have an alarm. Could a solenoid be bad if you cross it over and the car starts?

Okay, It's an automatic. I just wanted to tell you a little more, When I put the key in and doesn't start, the lights on the dash like the brake light signal and all come on but the car doesn't start. There is however numerous beeping sounds when I turn the key. I think one may be for the alarm? Several but not all of the times that I turned the key, the doors locked automatically.

Have you had the battery disconnected?, This could cause the car not to start. Most after market alarms have a rest button that you have to push in on and then turn the key. The button is usually under steering wheel, kind of tucked up out of the way. It may be a red or white button or sometimes it may be a silver switch. Just push and hold while you turn the key. I ran into this a lot.

The early Cavaliers had a problem with the solenoid wire to the starter. It had too much draw and a relay was installed to cure this problem. The relay is attached to a brace by the cooling fan if that car had the upgrade. Most do as the dealer installed them whenever the car went in for service

Check all the cables have been reconnected to the battery, including the thinner wire that feeds the ignition/starter key switch.
