i have a goldfish that lives in an outdoor pond along with many other types of fish which we've had for many many years. However, over the last month or so this one goldfish has gotten very fat and seems to always stay at the top of the pond only going deeper is something scares it. So my question is, is my fish ill or pregnant or what? It's been like it for about a month.

I would suggest your fish either has a swim bladder infection or is constipated. Try feeding it several shelled, hulled english peas to help with constipation and see if he stays down more. Otherwise you may need to remove the fish from the pond and treat it with antibiotics for swim bladder infection. I recommend Furanace for the treatment of internal infections.

I think I know what is going on here. My fish "Grommet" who is also a gold-fish is doing that to. I went on line and I got the answer. Here let me explain this to u so know whats doing on, then i will tell you what to do.

your fish could be pregnant or what happened to my fish is that it said you are feeding it too much + it said the food your fish eats has air in it so if it eats to much your fish will have air in its stomach. Now, if it has air in its tummy ovesly it will float and puff up. it also said don `t feed it for a day or two even if you have more then the one who has the problem, it won `t hurt them at all. Just think of i as a diet. Now, my fish is fine. if that does not work check somewhere else on line.

P.S.
I would not ask someone on yahoo answers if i was wrong. Bye! Hope it works.
