Unless you have a magic wand, you can't just go "shazaam" you're different. Unless he WANTS to become a more compassionate and sympathetic person, you can't change that. If you want him to communicate more effectively with you, it will take time, patience, and willingness on both your parts. Competitiveness and aggression are a result of having more testosterone in the system than estrogen, as he gets older his testosterone level will drop and the two will be more balanced. Show compassion, sympathy and communicate, and maybe you can teach him how. If he has no desire to change, then he won't.

The best way to change someone's behavior is the ignore the behavior you don't like and reward any behavior that tends to what you do like. For instance, if he is being competitive about something, give in immediately. Don't give him any reward for winning. Then, any time he shows the slightest tendency toward cooperation, reward him with praise, even if it's only something small. "John, I really appreciate that you asked me whether I wanted biscuits or toast. That was very considerate." You'll be surprised how quickly people will change using this method.

You're kidding, right? If you want to spend half your life trying to use Behavior Modification on him and the second half regretting the waste of time...then try it!! Time better spent is to find a man compatible to your personality!! How would you react if someone kept trying to change YOUR personality???

Don't tell a person to change, that's like you're telling someone that they're not good enough for you. Either accept as is, or move on.
