First off
Green Spotted Puffers are not the same as Figure 8 Puffers.
Puffers are not very docile, and need more than a little salt.
When juvenile, GSP are relatively peaceful, but as they mature they become increasingly aggressive and need a higher salt content.
So if you believe you can keep a puffer healthy through maturation, I would consider having another tank set up for it when your mollies come up to greet you with little fin left.

Yes, puffers are very docile. You will need a small amount of salt in the water to keep the puffer healthy, but it won't be enough to cause a problem for the mollies and guppies.

No unfortunatly not. The green puffer also known as the figure 8 puffer, and in some circles refered to as the mother puffer, is a fin nipping so and so. He doesn't play well with others.

The fish gets ill. The shop will sell drugs and then the fish will die and the babies will bypass lower back to walmart/petsmart/anyplace and purchase greater fish and in line with risk a greater tank

First it would be important to determine exactly which fish you have
http://puffernet.tripod.com/confusion.html
then you can use the scientific name to ask another question or to google for more info on them. What is true for one species may not be true for another.

If you want to take a risk, then yes. However, if you really want to buy it, buy a divider so he won't nip the fins.
