Just picked up a Mercury outboard 80hp, 2 cycle from the late '70's, I assume, serial # 5773548- What is the fuel mix ratio? I have added a fuel tank of regular gas, without mixing- How do I now mix the fuel?

Thanks!

The ratio is 50 parts gas to 1 part 2 stroke oil. Look on the container to see how much you need to mix with the amount of gas you put in the boat. The best way to mix it guessing that you havea built in tank is to put some gas in the tank, add the amount of oil you need and then put in the rest of the gas. If you have already filled the tank you can add the oil and if you trailer the boat it will be mixed by the time you launch it. You can put the oil in and rock the boat from side to side if you are in the water, or you could hook up a portable tank and ride around and let the built in tank get mixed. Best way is to take some gas out, put in the oil and add the gas back.

Buy a bottle of two cycle oil, on the bottle it tells the mix ratio.

50/1

There are 128 oz. in one gallon therefore divide 128 by 50 = approx 2.5 oz oil/gal of fuel

Use a good quality "ashless" TCW-3 rated oil.

3 ounces per gallon, or if you want to get finicky about it 2.5 ounces per gallon.
