I would have sworn it was Nurture w/some Nature--UNTIL I went with my adopted daughter to meet her bio-mom. My daughter was 24, and in her words, glad it wasn't until that age, as her personality was formed. It was an eye-openner to see them together!!! SAME gestures, sense of humor, mannerisms....unbelievable!! People did start telling me our voices were very similar and a few other things. The bio-Dad was ukn, but obiously, my daughter got her height from him. They had six years relationship before the bio-Mom succumbed to the long hard years prior to her recent sobiety, and her immune system could not fight off a minor infection, and died. The maternal Grandmother is still in contact, and in many ways, there are similar traits. But most of all, my daughter is strictly herself!!! A unique combination of both bios' genes, nurturing influences, her own intelligence and determination and self-direction!

The only things that you inherit are size;shape;eye colour;hearing;hair colour;left or right handedness; increased or lessened senses but only to a degree; short-sightedness or long-sightedness, in essence, physical characteristics. Everything else is learned or not learned. eg its no use at all to have perfect pitch if you are raised in a situation where there is no appreciation of music at all. However, even people who do not have perfect pitch can still become brilliant musicians if encouraged to do so. This may sound like a very hard and fast scientific statement but think about the good news this gives us all. It means that since all this stuff is actually behavioural and learned, the bad bits can be unlearnt and new good stuff can be learned to over-ride it. That does not mean it will be easy but it does mean we can do it!

One can be shy by nature, but learn to overcome their shyness and be more outgoing. Nature and nurture.

Nature. Our dominance vs. tameness, or introversion vs. extroversion, and all our main qualities are genetically formed, just like our size, eye color, and resistance or susceptibility to diseases. This is the basic structure, like that of a house. What "nurture" adds, is like paint, furniture, adornments, etc.
