I was wondering what happens when you have a virus on your computer. Does it work slower? How can you remove the virus if you have one?

Any kind of advice is appreciated! Thanks!

They invade the hard drive & is stored in C:\Win\System32 & has an extension of .dll. An indication a Virus or TROJAN has infiltrated your computer is you will start to receive ERROR messages when performing simple tasks. Yes, your computer will slow.

The computer I am now using, I received from my nephew. Windows 2000 Professional When I went online for the first time it was so congested it barely functioned. I down loaded PC Tools Firewall. Then Avast Antivirus, which removed 141 infected files, mainly TROJANS. And finally an ANTI SPYWARE program. Now the computer is running relatively smooth.

Virus can cause all sort of problems.

To be sure, you should run a quick Nano Scan or a Total Scan from Panda Software. They let you try these new products for free at http://www.infectedornot.com so they can use that information to present statistics about the level of malware infection on the web.

The site is safe, since Panda is behind it. They have the latest virus definitions, so you will definitely detect all the malware in an infected computer.
