Sad !!!

I did once see a woman trying to fill the engine with oil by pouring it through the hole the dipstick goes into. This is true and not an urban myth - I saw it on the filling station I was working at in my school holidays.

I also saw a man putting petrol in his diesel engined car so it was a case of more than one dipstick !!! Yes I did stop him.

You can joke about this but i went to a factory to look at problems they where having with mobile plant and so many breakdowns only to find the maintenance supervisor trying to save money on consumables thus only filling the engines to the bottom of the dip stick, when i asked why the reply was well there is plenty of oil in the sump and filter. My reply to him was do you know better than the company's that make this machinery??.In two years they had 5 engines rebuilt but still could not see there problem even after i explained there shortcoming on low oil in there engines.

You might want to add some oil, as dipsticks are specific to the type of engine and, unless you have broken it, it is the correct size if it came with the engine/car.

Keep the dipstick and get another car with a shorter engine.

Without sounding rude, is there any oil in the car? I couldn't imagine a manufacturer making an oil dipstick too short to reach the oil.

Just cut several inches off the dipstick tube.

Obviously you are the longer dipstick, When your car engine seizes up it will cost you a packet to replace or repair it.

if you've snapped the plastic end off the dipstick then fair nuff, go the dealer and get a new one, won't be much over a tenner id imagine.. if its intact, then maybe adding some oil to the engine would be a good call..
