Yes, the KKK was in its second incarnation in the 1930s, but it was active. It was first formed after the Civil War, but was later disbanded. It was reformed as a new Klan around the time of WWI (1914-1918). The Klan, as I understand it, went really crazy during the 20s and 30s, and a lot of people who had previously supported the organization started to question it, instead. Just do a search on the history of the KKK, and you will see what I mean.

there was a huge national KKK push in the 20s, but it was petering out by the 30s... yes, they were still around.
Some actually went to Germany in the 30s, to help Hitler.
the 1920s-era Klan was not just anti-black, but also heavily anti-Catholic. They made huge inroads in electoral politics, running the state of Indiana and some would say Maine.
A friend of mine has a postcard picturing a Klan rally or march in thr 30s in upstate New York.

According to the History Channel, the KKK started out as a gay frat made up of losers that couldn't get into other frats or something...
(old olde school?)
Why do you wanna do a report on the effect/history of a confused and violent cult anyway? Seems to me like a lot more interesting things were going on....
The Great Depression, the New Deal, the Hoover Dam, international flight, gangsters, prohibition, skyscrapers, Hitler, communism (and the fear that it generated for decades)....
Lots of things would be more engaging - unless of course, your intention is to shock your audience and prove controversial. If that is the case, the Holocaust is a much more brutal and bloody story to tell, even in it's beginnings.

Yep, they were around, unfortunately. They got their start in the 1860s when they were known as the "Know Nothings". They would commit heinous acts like barring a Catholic church door during Sunday mass and setting the church on fire. If anyone or their brethren were asked about the incident they would "Know Nothing."

They've existed since 1860's and still exist today. The ideas behind it have changed but they still exist.
