wow thank you all. so far so good. i have used the flour with water and dried it by hanging it outside. the next layer i'm going to try the elmers glue with water. but i love the idea of using the blow dryer to speed up the process.

Paste
1 cup cold water
1 cup flour
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1 T. powdered alum
3/4 tsp. oil of wintergreen
Mix the cold water and flour together, stirring until smooth.
Add the boiling water and mix well. Pour the mixture into the top of a double boiler.
Cook over low heat until smooth. Add the alum and stir.
Remove from heat. When the mixture is cool, add the oil of wintergreen.

To get any of those to dry as quickly as possible, you'll want to use moving air, heat, and have a lack of moisture.
So the quickest way would be putting the object outside on a sunny and non-humid day (not night), with a fan blowing on it.
You could just do one of the ways though by:
... putting it in the sun, or putting it in an oven on Low
... using a fan or something similar, or at least in a dry part of the house in an area with a lot of circulation and not cramped
Oh, and the quickest would probably be the flour/water, but any of them would depend on the thickness and concentration used.
Good luck!

Hmmm... Balloon-pinata method and newsprint ?
I'd use a diluted elmers glue... it will dry in about the same time and with MUCH more rigidity and strength.
I have also mixed in a tiny bit of plaster... this adds more strength and slightly accelerates drying times (but reduces working time).
Enjoy

I recently made a volcano with the pinata method & we used flour & water & since i wanted to be done with it in one day I hit it with a hair dryer in between layers. Worked really well for us!

They will both probaly take about a day to dry compleatly, but you also could have gone to a craft store and bought a styrofome planet set. All you need it paint and your ready to go, but to answer your question you should use starch, and flour..... glue is very messy, and will take about a half day longer.
