the fuel pump is usually located in or on the gas tank

I really should pull the book on this, and I'm sure someone will shortly, but in the mid to late 80's GM began putting the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. If the pump is not on the lower right front of your engine then it has to be inside the tank.

i assume that you have a 350, therefore as you are facing your lovely 85 Caprice, with the hood open look down and to your left. you should find this one space ship odd looking thing that is mounted to the engine block at the very bottom (but easy access from underneath the caprice). now taking it off is the almost tricky part and you dont want to break anything otherwise you will have problems

The fuel pump sits at the bottom of the fuel sending unit inside the fuel tank.IT WILL BE NESS TO DROP THE FUEL TANK TO REPLACE THE PUMP.

If it is fuel injected, it is in the tank, if it still has a quadrajunk, it will be mounted on the right (passengers) side of the engine, in the front corner. Trace your fuel lines from the carb down, and good luck

It's probably in the tank. If it's not on the passenger side of your engine, it's in the tank.
