You might try switching to a cellular shade and use an option called top-down, bottom-up. These shades have two controls or cord locks which allow the shade to be lowered from either the top or raised from the bottom. When you lower them from the top and leave the bottom closed, you allow light in and the bottom portion is covered for privacy.

I suggest two things. One thing you can do which is fairly new in decorating is to reverse the mounting brackens. In other word put bracket and start of blind on the floor then put 2 hooks right and left and pull blind up to a height you can still have light but not visibility.
The other way is to put in shutters you can open the top but let the bottom closed, or just not have a top and used a curtain on top that could be a swag, no more than 18 to 20 inch drop you can still open the door have privacy and light.
Hope this gives you ideas.

The guys are idiots. they will only yell until they realize it doesn't bother you. What to worry about is those people with telescopes. What jerks they are! I like open windows and sunlight too. I have lots of plants in front of my windows and so wasn't as careful as I should have been. Imagine my surprise when a neighbor called and told me to be more careful with my blinds because her husband had a telescope and was watching me. And then there are the creeps that video tape. Be careful with all those windows and be sure that when the blinds are open, you can be seen and don't care what they see.

Are the blinds the type that you can adjust the slats? If they are, open them just a bit slanted up. That way you will get some light in your house, and the guys won't be able to see you as easily. That's how I open my blinds. I hardly ever raise them unless I open the window.

There is a transparent blind that appears to be a mirror to your neighbors but allows you to look out. It also blocks out harmful UV rays but still allows for sunlight to come into your room.
I see them all the time on condos here in Detroit. In our Condo I actually have light filtering blinds that are made of a sheer linen like material. They were really expensive but allows for light to come in, yet blocks out my neighbors view of my homes interior.
Try JC Penny

you could get some venetian blinds so you can open them up for light, but it would still be difficult to see clearly through them, although that might be expensive. You could also try getting a thin fabric or something to put over the window that might be thin enough to let in light, but not enough to where people can see

I use a white sheer over my blinds. It works great I have the privacy and light as well.
