It is a straight line because both x and y are only present to the "first power" (no x^2, etc.) So you just need to determine 2 points to define the line. Two easy points are to let x=0, and then y=0. If x=0, then you have 2y=12, or y=6. Similarly if y=0, then x=6. Then draw a line thru (0,6) and (6,0).

The first thing you want to do is put it into the slope formula (y=mx+b)

New equation is 2y = -2x + 12 and of course divde both sides by 2. now you have y = -1 x+ 6.

The -1 is the rise over the run. the b represents the Y intercept. The Y intercept is the value of Y when x is equal to 0.

Plug the 0 into the y = -1x + 6

y = 0 + 6
y = 6

There is your starting point. (0, 6).

Rise over the one is -1/1. From point (0,6) you wanna rise and then run. Since it's a -1, you go down one and one to the right. Your next point would then be (1,5), and then from there down another one and right one (2,4), etc.

I think it isn't a trick. This is the way to do it.

1.you must know the two axis. (x is for horizontal & y is for vertical axis.)
2.make more simple the formula. (like, y + x= 6)
3.arrange them into standard way. ( y = mx +c)
(in this case m=-1 and c=6)(m is multiplier of x)( c is a constant)
*c shows the point that y axis exists. (this graph is going through +6 of y axis)
4.make a simple table with 2columns and 3rows(minimum).
5.put y and -x+6 in separated columns.
6.equal some numbers to x.(like -3,0,3 otherwise you have find a big paper.)
7.fill the numbers you equal to x in -x+6 rows.
8.put the numbers in y row you got for y after equaling for x.
9. read the table for x and for y and mark the point they meet.
10.get a ruler and make a straight line that go through the marked points.
11.now you'll get the graph.(if graph isn't straight check the values you got for y.)In this type you'll not get curved lines for graph!

It's a line...

2y+2x = 12 --> (get y by it-self, so substract 12 from both sides, and substract 2y from both sides, this way 12 cancels out on the right side and 2y cancels out on the left) --> 2x-12=-2y (now divide -2 on both sides to get y by it self) --> x+6=y

Your equation is a line at points (-6,0) and (0,6)

y + x = 6
y = - x + 6
This is the equation of a straight line.
To draw a straight line you need two points.
Let x = 0 and this gives y = 6-----Point (0, 6)
Let x = 6 and this gives y = - 6 + 6 = 0
Point(6, 0)
Can then draw a line thro` these two points.
