I've tried asking this question before, but I'm gonna try it again.

Openness is good, but too much can push people away. I've heard that being too open shows you're too needy and overly dependent.

Why is that? What does it mean? How would you help someone with this problem?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Don't make yourself an open target for possible rejection or humiliation. Take it slow and easy and let things come out naturally. Don't be totally confined and secretive, but don't do the whole needy thing either. Start off with basics and then maybe a memory will come out in a conversation and progress from there. But don't open up like an exploding barrel because that will overwhelm a person and cause serious caution.

I don't think it's needy, why would it be needy...I'm the same way, and my kids tell me people don't want to hear all that stuff, but, people really like to hear stories and things, and being open to me you find what people really think about you, and the ones that stick by you, knowing how open you are, are the ones you want and the ones that don't want to hear all the things, you don't want them around....be yourself...there is nothing wronge with being yourself...and I know what you mean it does push some people away, but, hey, who needs them then...just be yourself, and be honest, and the ones still around are the ones that will be there through thick and thin....think about it...most people keep things inward too much, and try and hide things, thus they are fake, and who wants fake people...we are just open people, who are honest, and not fake, and most people I've found like it...so, like I said, just be yourself...and as long as it's not hurting anyone who cares what other's think.....but, if you know it's going to hurt someone....maybe think twice before being so open...good luck

Hon, I have heard that too and I think the problem is not with people like us but with society ! People are so hardened by life that they see it as normal to be cold and hardhearted ! So baby just keep on keeping on, unless you choose to play their games.

when you talk too much about yourself it makes you sound self-centered. you should listen more than you talk and try to understand others. don't depend on other people's advice take your own.
