They had no legs but were like a cross between a sqiud and a floppy pancake, they flew through the air by spinning around and attacked people by flopping over on the person's head and sucking out their brains.

I saw this as little kid and I don't remember than name of it - please help, it's driving me nuts!

Fiend Without a Face (1957). It's one of my all-time favorite B sci-fi movies. The flying brains are awesome, and when they get shot, the ooze that comes out is so gnarly. Great flick.

...my friend, you just described part of the basic plot for the campy sci-fi/horror film, "Without Warning" (1980), starring Jack Palance, Martin Landau, Neville Brand, Larry Storch...and Kevin Peter Hall as the bulbous-headed alien hunter, who uses those tentacled, squid-like pancake-looking creatures to hunt humans on earth (more than a bit of coincidence for Kevin, as he would years later, portray another human-hunting alien, hunting Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator"

Unfortunately, "Without Warning" has yet to see official release on DVD, and has never been released on VHS tape; I have a copy on DVD-R, but it is from a televised broadcast. If you are in the San Diego area, around the July time frame, and attending the internationally sponsored and recognized Comic-Con, you probably might find a copy there (that's where I got mine).

That movie is called The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. SB and Patrick always go out to catch the cute little critters (though they did not in the movie).
