Stop thinking about food, smoking and sex.

Totally. Just get ahold of something and chew it up like
popcorn until it dies a sudden death and I find something else
to chew on. I finally quit smoking completely after a hundred
tries. I broke this habit by watching programs on dying
children in Africa who suffer so far beyond any little withdrawal symptoms I might be having. Made me feel
like an idiot. Then I had to address the problem of over
eating and used the same videos obsessively...this is
one time when it came in handy. Then I obsessed on
walking which engaged endorphins which made me
feel fabulous and now I have healthy and fun obsessions
instead of harmful ones. I think if you're an obessive
personality, it's to your advantage not to change but
to re-structure it in different directions. Obsession is
simply intense focus and is the reason for every major
breakthrough in art, music, literature, medicine, etc.

i dont think overeating/ smoking/ masturbation can be considered obsessive habits...true they are done to ward off anxiety...but obsessive personality is when you do something irrational(unlike smoking, masturbation, etc) to ward off a SPECIFIC thought...i could be wrong tho...
