This is a silver Coin in a necklace.

On the front is Lady Liberty with 1776 under it

On the back is a double eagle and Twenty D. not Dollars just D.
Has anyone got any idea what this could be?

It is a medal made to be used in jewelery. The U.S. mint was not established until 1793. The $20 double eagle was not authorized by congress until March 03 1849. It had 20 D on the reverse. The word dollar was not there. A lot of medals as well as token were made from 1970-1976 due to 1976 being our bicentennial year. A lot of necklaces and bracelets were also made with coin type items attached. I believe your item is gold plated, but not solid gold. If more than just a thin coat of gold, it would give, how many karats it has, like say 14kt. Hope this answers your question.
