For hard copies, SACD. Most audiophiles have done away with hard copies altogether now, and use compressed audio files (like MP3, AAC, WMA and OGG.) The radio station where I work is going entirely digital, no discs, digicarts, carts or anything, in the near future.

Probably improved versions of CDs with better clarity? Like a SACD for example. Digital music is big to. But I don't think there will be many more music inventions just improvements of what already exists.

Well they have ipods now and thumb drives so I see the future as us downloading our music from different internet sites for the different singers and pop groups. What will happen is each group will have their own website an will post their new cds online for us to purchase and download.

I've been hearing that soon they are going to stop putting music on cd's and start recording to digital frizbees. You can listen to your favorite cd on you frizbee. they even made this digital frizbee player, DFP.
