And I don't mean severe terms of suffering, like war or genocide, but stuff like locking someone out of their home on purpose and getting a kick out of seeing them bang on the door in fear or laughing at someone puking in a toilet or getting a kick out of slapping someone with a towel over and over again or laughing at someone who fell on iceskates (and they got hurt).

I think that it is normal for some people to see the humor in most situations. Especially the ones listed above. I can't think of a single person who hasn't laughed a good hard laugh when they saw someone walk into a window thinking it is a door, or someone that fell on their butt at the ice rink. especially if they try to laugh it off.

Don't worry hon. you are completely normal in this.

now if you said you enjoyed seeing people getting seriously hurt I would worry. But the one about the ice scates and they got hurt, did you laugh before you knew they were hurt? if so its ok.
But in the situations listed above you are perfectly normal.
Actually just picturing some of them brings a chuckle to me. lol

No, it's abnormal and may be early forboding of later criminal behavior. The psychologists have a fancy word for this phenomenon, though, which I don't now remember. They have studied it, to test for empathy vs. its opposite. Women tend to be more empathic than men--react more negatively to seeing others' suffering.

But it is normal for people to have some satisfaction, if they have reason to think that the victim DESERVES to be "punished", for some good reason.

It sounds pretty sadistic to enjoy others being in pain or severly frightened. If you are in a relationship with someone who is treating you in this manner-get out before you get truly injured. Have more respect for yourself than to allow anyone to treat you like this.

If they watch and enjoy it, it's called "Schadenfreude" -- laughing at other people's misfortunes. If they do something (locking somenoe out of their home), it's called abuse, and it can be physical, mental, emotional or verbal. If someone's abusing you, you can report them to the police or to your school if it happens at school.

No, I think the person who enjoys making or seeing others suffer is mentally ill.
Good luck

I don't think that's considered "normal"...I know people do this...but it definitely has sadistic overtones.
