In some ways they can, but many times they do not work at all. People have to be unaware of the message for it to be subliminal though- like if you flickered "I am hungry" across the screen so quickly that they were unaware of it.

Subliminal messages such as "If U Seek Amy" by Britney Spears? Personally I don't think they do (considering some of Britney's fans are kids) I mean is music just here for enjoyment and to appreciate it. Not to make us do things without intention.

I think sometimes it works in flashes but as far as reading it yeah I don't think it works too well but then again I just ate so I'm not too hungry anyway. Sorry!
