don't buy into the red state blue state mentality. its just another ploy for everyone to hate each other more. if i am in a red state, I am pitted against those blue staters, and vice versa. the media did a good job in creating this nonsense to instill more hate and drama into the political arena.

The red and blue tags are something the media invented. Traditionally they just label the voting trends for states, but you have to remember that not everyone votes with the trends or that not everyone votes with the traditional "two" parties. Couple that with the less than 50% voter participation and you may see why those tags are by no means official and do not reflect the majority thinking in any state.

Honestly, I live in a traditionally red state, but I am going to vote for Obama, because I believe he is the only one who wants to unite us as a country, instead of all this bickering based on party, he wants us to have discussions and come to agreements both sides can live with. He is really kind of middle of the road, in my opinion-he has issues that almost anyone would find appealing (not everyone will agree with all of them)
I was raised in a conservative Republican household, and my parents usually always vote that way.
I myself, had not voted before (I'm 27), because I felt that there was no one who would stand up for the American people (most politicians accept lobbyist money-which is essentially a bribe to get them to vote a certain way on certain policies, even if it is not in the publics best interest) and I felt like we were shuffling around the same type of people, regardless of party.
Obama does not accept lobbyist money (he refused $50,000 a couple weeks ago when he found out it was from a lobbyist group)
After reading Obama's book, I was filled with a mixture of both hope and joy, and the certainty that our country could become better if this man is elected!
Please read his book "The Audacity of Hope", even if you are not sure you are interested in him, because you just might change your mind about politics and America being able to change! You can also go to BarackObama.com to find out more about the issues he supports and what he plans to do about them if elected. (Watch one of his videos of his speeches-this man is awesome and intelligent!)
My only worry is that because of the way our elections are set up with the electoral system, mine and my husbands votes (and the others who support Obama in our state) may not ultimately count, because the electoral college can vote as they see fit.

Red States and Blue States are a product of television coverage of the election results. . .nothing more. Let's be honest. . .there are plenty of people who vote Democratic in places like South Carolina &Texas as there are people who vote Republican in New York or Massachusetts.

well then how would you explain red states right next to blue states. No Red states are generally the less populated, more independent states while the blue states are densely populated and need more government assistance to survive & thrive. Just one mans opinion.

No, "red" states and "blue" are not such because everyone is that way, only because a majority are. Usually the "different" ones in any given state represent more than 40%.

red and blue are simplistic designations that consider only the majority of the voters in any given state. what people do and how they vote is irrelevant to the designation.

Well, actually all of Bush's states had lower overall IQ's than those which went to Kerry. I think some ARE just smarter!
PS: That is a fact!
