I have a black moor fish (which is adorable by the way). It keeps floating to the top of its bowl and tries to swim down, but it fails. No matter how hard my poor fishy tries, it always floats to the top of its tank. I am beginning to wonder, is it underweight so it can't sink?

You fish either has a swim bladder infection or is constipated. Since black moors are very prone to constipation due to their body shape, I would bet on that. Try not feeding your fish for a day then feeding him a shelled and hulled english pea or two. The fiber in the pea will "get things moving" again and clear up the problem. If that doesn't work you will need to treat the fish with antibiotics for the swim bladder infection.

Ghapy is exactly right. You do need to get your fish in a proper tank very soon or he will continue to have more and more health problems and will eventually die from stunting and diseases.

He has a disease that is causing swim bladder dysfunction. It could be something bacterial, or what is known as Dropsy.

You need to medicate, but not in a bowl.

But more importantly, you need a proper home for your fish. These fish get very big, live very long, and are very messy. You will never keep him alive in a bowl for long. Some people think they did great keeping their fish alive for one, two, or three years in the bowl, not realizing they can live for decades! They need big, properly filtered tanks. If you love your poor fishie, get him a 20 or 30 gallon tank.

Good luck.

No change water and food. The food is most likely old and rancid causing gas in the gut and the fish to float. You must replace food every month whether you use it or not. High nitrates cause this too. Any reading over 20ppm and you need to do large water changes until it is.

I believe your fish is diseased. Something about bloating.

Sounds like he may be sick. You better call someone at a fish store and ask them.
