43.

Is that a times 2 or a raised to the second power?

Times 2

4x + 22 + 9 = 0

4x = 31

x = 31/4 = 7-3/4

Squared

(4x^2 + 44x + 121) + 9 = 0

4x^2 + 44x + 130 = 0

2x^2 + 22x + 65 = 0

Using the quadratic equation, I get x = 2.42 or -13.42

45.

x^2 - 2 = -x

x^2 + x - 2 = 0

(x + 2)(x - 1) = 0

x = -2 or 1

(-2)^2 - 2 = 4 - 2 = 2

1^2 - 2 = -1
