Evangelicals have no problem with stretching and relaxing an all that. But the Hindu concept of Yoga is a method to unite oneself with Brahaman--the oneness of everything. Evangelicals think this concept of yoga is based on a false religious idea. That's why they have a problem with it.

Because Yoga masters can get into so many extremely flexible positions, which leads to better sex. Since evangelicals are bitter and jealous about sex of any sort, unless it involves the missionary position between a husband and wife on saturday nights with the lights off in the bedroom, they hate yoga.

Evangelicals are hostile to life. They are insane. Ignore them. I never heard about the Yoga thing, but I'm not the least bit surprised.

They relate yoga with Buddhism, and that is a competing religion. They want only Christian beliefs taught. Eastern philosophy goes against fundamental beliefs, and the fundies don't want people being influenced by other beliefs that might "lure" them away. It's really a control tactic.

Not that it would hurt John Hagee or Jerry Falwell to take up a bit of yoga, or some other exercise (apart from lifting a knife and fork.)
