Your slider is stuck because your display driver only allows the lowest resolution. Go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager. In the window that pops up click on the "+" before "display adapters." It should expand to show your display adapter. Double-clicking it will open a window that will probably tell you it works ok. Just push the button "Solve problem." A help window will pop up, listing your problem (at the bottom line) and giving you all the steps to correct the problem. Good luck!

First right-click on the desktop and then left click on Properties from the menu that appears.

The display properties dialogue box will appear

Screen Resolution
This slide bar is what you use to change the resolution, the options you have will depend on your graphics card and monitor, but the standard options are 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864.

Normally the default (in XP) is set to 800x600 which means the display will be 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high.

Color Quality
This pull down box will contain the current colour options available, again this will depend on your grahics card and monitor, for best results select the highest option available

Changing the Resolution
To change your resolution simply slide the bar along to the resolution of your choice and then click the Apply button.

After clicking Apply your screen will resize to the new resolution and you will be presented with a confirm dialogue box (see left), if you are happy with the way your screen looks then simply click Yes, if you would like to try a different resolution click No.

When you have finished simply close the Display properties box.

note: It is best to use your PC for a while in the new resolution to see if it is suitable for you

bpooljay1982,

I'm sorry my earlier instruction to find your graphics card wasn't clear enough. An alternative is to download the following programme. It's called Belarc Advisor. It's a free program, and when you run it, it will give you a comprehensive breakdown of the hardware and software that makes up your computer.

Your computer must have a graphics card (sometimes called a video card, or graphics adapter) or you wouldn't see anything. It's what puts the images on screen.

If you still experience problems, feel free to email me (click on my avatar, and you'll see that you can contact me from there. Use email as I rarely use IM).

Do a system restore back to before this problem started occurring. Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. Follow the prompts. You should only lose changes made to the computer since the date you select.
NOTE: You may have a graphic card problem if it is not listed in Device manager.

when you're on the desktop, right click and click on properties, then click settings in the tabs at the top of the window, and there should be a slider there. change it then click apply, if it's wrong change it again and click apply. when it's right, click ok.

EDIT: Try not to make the res too small, it may completely f**k up your screen.. as mine did once.. looked like a tv snow storm, but on the comp instead!

It went all huge and prefer green. you should attempt a equipment fix as long as that's xp >. That worked nicely for me so attempt it if that doesn't artwork then telephone up your comouter manufacture and that they are going to type it out for you. desire it helped!!!!

You need to make sure you apply the changes or they won't take effect
