How do you get pokemon from silver on the fir red version?

Can I get like a totodile on my fire red version? and if so how?

Update: Is the only way to get a totodile in fire red to get it in Pokemon XD? and then trasfer it to the fire red and then trade it to my diamond?

You can't. Silver and Fire Red are incompatible:

Yellow, Red, Blue, Stadium I and II, Gold, Crystal, Silver-compatiable

Diamond, Pearl, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green=compatible.
