He just seems tired and cranky a lot of times -- and he just does the show 2 nights a week. He's been rude to callers and guests. I've stopped listening when he's hosting. I wish him well, but I'm sick of hearing about his mail order bride and being a father at 102.

Also, he clearly doesn't listen to the shows that George and Ian host because when a caller asks, he has no idea what they are talking about.

Thanks for responding, Lydia. I don't have enough points to add this as a comment, so here goes. I know he was and is a brilliant, great man and has blazed many a trail. I know he has been a friend to many. I had just started listening when his wife, Ramona, died and I do think it has been a progression which started then and has just continued. He almost sounds bored or irritated to be there sometimes. There is a time to move on and focus on living your life. I think he is there. It saddens me and I think having him guest or host a couple of hours in a night would be great -- maybe a special correspondent like Linda Bolton Howe -- to have somebody move the program along when he's being rude to a guest and not have him decide which callers get to finish their questions and which don't. I listen to the show to expand my mind and think of possiblities and he just doesn't seem to encourage that anymore unless he's dealing with something he is personally interested in.

Ok, his child-bride is pregnant -- and who is responsible for that? Am I really supposed to feel sorry for him. He doesn't have to do this for the money anymore. Besides which, my husband shouldn't be able to be rude to clients when I'm pregnant -- it's unprofessional and inappropriate. Hell, I shouldn't even do so. Further, if he doesn't want to work with guests other than those he hand-picks, then DON'T for god's sake. Take a vacation, then, please. . . If he doesn't want to "put up with people" then don't -- let someone else do it who wants to do it. If he doesn't have any interest in knowing what the others are doing, isn't that half-hearted interest?
Coast to Coast has gone on without him when he "retired" twice before. It will go on long after he's gone.

BTW - One of those callers he cut off last night was Sulliman (phonetic spelling) whom both he and George have said they wanted to have as a guest some time. This is what he was trying to talk about: http://slantblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/slantblog-supports-nbc-boycott.htm . This is action being taken on a behavior by NBC that Art and George have both said was deplorable. But Art cut him off, basically saying "I don't know what you're talking about and I'm not going there." Okay. . .
