He just seems tired and cranky a lot of times -- and he just does the show 2 nights a week. He's been rude to callers and guests. I've stopped listening when he's hosting. I wish him well, but I'm sick of hearing about his mail order bride and being a father at 102.

Also, he clearly doesn't listen to the shows that George and Ian host because when a caller asks, he has no idea what they are talking about.

Thanks for responding, Lydia. I don't have enough points to add this as a comment, so here goes. I know he was and is a brilliant, great man and has blazed many a trail. I know he has been a friend to many. I had just started listening when his wife, Ramona, died and I do think it has been a progression which started then and has just continued. He almost sounds bored or irritated to be there sometimes. There is a time to move on and focus on living your life. I think he is there. It saddens me and I think having him guest or host a couple of hours in a night would be great -- maybe a special correspondent like Linda Bolton Howe -- to have somebody move the program along when he's being rude to a guest and not have him decide which callers get to finish their questions and which don't. I listen to the show to expand my mind and think of possiblities and he just doesn't seem to encourage that anymore unless he's dealing with something he is personally interested in.

Ok, his child-bride is pregnant -- and who is responsible for that? Am I really supposed to feel sorry for him. He doesn't have to do this for the money anymore. Besides which, my husband shouldn't be able to be rude to clients when I'm pregnant -- it's unprofessional and inappropriate. Hell, I shouldn't even do so. Further, if he doesn't want to work with guests other than those he hand-picks, then DON'T for god's sake. Take a vacation, then, please. . . If he doesn't want to "put up with people" then don't -- let someone else do it who wants to do it. If he doesn't have any interest in knowing what the others are doing, isn't that half-hearted interest?

Coast to Coast has gone on without him when he "retired" twice before. It will go on long after he's gone.

BTW - One of those callers he cut off last night was Sulliman (phonetic spelling) whom both he and George have said they wanted to have as a guest some time. This is what he was trying to talk about: http://slantblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/slantblog-supports-nbc-boycott.htm . This is action being taken on a behavior by NBC that Art and George have both said was deplorable. But Art cut him off, basically saying "I don't know what you're talking about and I'm not going there." Okay. . .

Wouldn't That be great? That would shut Shirleypal up a while and knock her off her high horse!
He should take a decade off so he can raise his child-bride and his daughter.
His show seems to predictable and his interrogation style interviewing is getting old.
If I hear another pizza punch CM on his show, I might punch someone!
His guests seems bored with him during the shows.

But Then, George deserves some nights off....Ian could take it but , poor thing....he gets stuck with the worst topic!!

I am Totally bored with Art and I only listen to George. His manners are better and lets face it, he made the show as big as it is now after Art left. George saved Coast to Coast AM.

Wow! Not many talk radio questions on here... wish there were a category!
Have loved Coast to Coast since I discovered it about 13 years ago. Art was incredibly awesome at that time. I hardly listen any more, since I have to do it on the computer on streaming audio, but try to catch Art on the weekend - just nice to hear his voice again. George does an amazing job, and Ian is just alright. Haven't noticed the qualities you mentioned, but did maybe that big change happen after his wife died?
Nice just to know there's another listener out there...

I like George Better so yes. I think Art should make up his mind and retire for good. Give Ian more shows too.

No, I don't wish that Art Bell would retire again, because without Art Bell, there would be no "Coast to Coast AM". As far as Art Bell's being tired and cranky is concerned, his wife Airyn is pregnant and her mood swings are probably REALLY stressing HIM out!

Ian is great and Art is the Master, Noory sucks and if you can't say anything nice, you know the old saying don't say anything at all, if anyone leaves it should be Noory.
