(Basically, it's a lifetime commitment to never smoke, do drugs, or drink alcohol. Symbolized by the X, some Straight Edgers draw black X's on both hands or sign their names with X's by it. It was started a few decades ago around the time of the original punk rock scene. I'm 14, and I made this commitment at 13.)

To be Straight Edge goes beyond not smoking, drinking, or doing drugs. It is a very violent lifestyle, almost to a skinhead level of violence! Granted, not all Straight Edgers or skinheads are violent but, there is a tag attached to both! I lived the Punk Rock lifestyle for a very long time & it is still in my heart. Just be careful that you don't get in over your head!It's not all about listening to Minor Threat!

I think it's a wonderful idea. It sounds like a great way to keep your life on a good path. I pray that your commitment is successful. The only thing I could think of to make it better would be to add not having any sexual activity (other than kissing) until you are married, or at least an adult who is in a committed long term relationship.

A lot of rockers are straight edge. All of AFI has taken the Straight Edge life style, and Pete Wentz used to be. I've been considering it.
BTW, I thought most Straight-edgers did the X in duct-tape.

I think there is nothing wrong with it. But I also think that age 13 or 14 is too young to make that type of commitment.

good for u. I am all for no drugs or smoking but i dont think i'll never have a beer. I wont be an alcholic tho and i wont drink til im 21.

Well it all sounds pretty good to me. There's a lot of positive things in there such as not doing drugs or alcohol which is good.

Never heard of it. No one in my school has done it then because I've never seen anyone with black Xs on their hands. Well to each their own.
