A modem is for talking to a phone. It is NOT supposed to have an Ethernet cord plugged into it.

What should you do? Find someone who knows more about a computer than you do and have them help you.

Most modems only have 1 spot for an ethernet cable... find out what the cord is currently plugged into, you will most likely want to obtain a router if you need more than 1 computer connected to the internet at once.

There is a difference between the Ethernet connection and the modem connection.
The Ethernet connection uses an RJ45 - 8 pins while your phone/modem connection uses an RJ-15 - 4 pins.
What should you do? Get the right cable and find the right hole for it.
