If the thing is eating tapes... its one of two problems...

1. your tapes are old and worn out..

or 2. The heads need adjustment AND CLEANING

Hi Okami,

I don't think Sony is known for quality. They have "eye candy" designs with functioning parts that are so so at best. They are good at putting spyware on computers and worry more about DRM then their products and customers.

From the way you describe the problem is sounds like the transport system is bad. This is the part that draws in the tape cassette, opens it, threads the tapes around the heads to play. It reverses the process to eject a tape. I think your Sony would cost more to repair then it is worth.

Sorry,

Norm

Cleaning is not going to fix this problem only ruin a head cleaning tape.
Your problem is in or around the idler assembly, which if you looked inside is located between the two black take-up reels. Pull the cover off and check that nothing dropped in between them & is causing your tape to spill out. If not, try a tape & watch to see if the reel on the right turns when you play or fast forward. Before you eject the tape, rewind it. If there is a problem with slippage you should get an estimate.

i could seek for a 2d hand VCR for %. up in basic terms close to you on gumtree or ebay for next to no longer something this is indexed as working nice. Or while you're interior the united kingdom there is likewise freecycle the place you may get stuff for loose. I reckon this could be lots greater undemanding than attempting to repair and sparkling an previous VCR. there are various transferring aspects and if that is been used lots interior the final 14 years I reckon it somewhat is on the component to the top of that is existence (or previous it!).

You might need the head cleaned as stated above. I bought the Maxell head cleaning kit. It's $20 but worked great. My vcr did the same thing. Good luck.
