What was the foreign policy objective of going to the cold war? Why? (Ex. ideological, humanitairan, etc)?

and the follow-up question, why were the democracies capitalists and the those living behind the Iron Curtain communists? You'd think it would be the other way around??

Pure Global Survival.
The Globe was in 2 camps:
Free World & under Russian/Chinese Rule.

Today:
Chinese Rule for china BUT divided minor powers with Nuke missiles.
Very radical from Cold War 1.
